Church of the Ascension

Church History

Church of the Ascension is an open assembly of Catholic Believers of the Diocese of Richmond Proclaiming the Word of God, Celebrating the Eucharist, and Serving the Local Community. The parish was founded in May 1972 with a core group of 100 families. The first masses were held on Saturdays at the Kempsville Presbyterian Church and on Sundays at various schools and other facilities for a period of two years. The worship center was completed in 1974. At that point the parish had grown to 250 families. In 1989 the Ascension Community Center was added. We currently serve about 1400 families.
