The Catholic Diocese of Richmond encompasses all of the southern part of Virginia -- including the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Our territory covers three-fifths of Virginia, some 33,000 square miles. On the east, borders stretch from the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean west to West Virginia and Kentucky; to the south, we border Tennessee and North Carolina, and extend north to the counties of Northern Virginia that comprise the Catholic Diocese of Arlington. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is an assembly of the hierarchy of the United States and the U.S. Virgin Islands who jointly exercise certain pastoral functions on behalf of the Christian faithful of the United States. The purpose of the Conference is to promote the greater good which the Church offers humankind, especially through forms and programs of the apostolate fittingly adapted to the circumstances of time and place. This purpose is drawn from the universal law of the Church and applies to the episcopal conferences which are established all over the world for the same purpose.

Founded to foster the development of wholesome family life in the community, the agency provides counseling for individuals and families under stress, and offers programs of education and prevention for strengthening family life. The agency advocates improvements in social conditions for individuals, families, the elderly and children.
The Catholic Virginian

The Catholic Virginian is published biweekly and serves the people of the Diocese of Richmond. Circulation is approximately 72,000. The newspaper emphasizes diocesan news with a balance of national and international news of interest to Catholics. The mission of the paper is, "To help meet peoples' needs for information that they may better live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to support their understanding of themselves as a believing community." Subscription is $12.50 per year for those not members of a diocesan parish.

The disability voice of the U.S. Catholic Bishops. NCPD was established in 1982 to further implementation of the 1978 Pastoral Statement of U.S. Catholic Bishops on People with Disabilities, which calls for full inclusion of all persons with disabilities in the Church and in society–a vision we are still working urgently to achieve. We publish a newsletter, offer various information resources and present Catholic perspectives on disability issues.
