Funeral Ministry

Giving Tree
We help make Christmas a more joyous time for underprivileged children and adults. Ministers make Giving Tree tags, sort, wrap, and buy gifts, and occasionally deliver gifts. We’re a match for Santa’s elves! Contact Person: Kathy McNamara 460-4941 or mkmac1@cox.net
Golden Age Ministry
Volunteers are needed for transportation for our "golden agers" to doctor appointments, bringing people to church; small home repairs, phone calls, letter writing or bill paying; grocery shopping, or just a friendly visit. Contact Person: Rosemary and Jim Thietje at 410-2089 thietje@cox.net
Faith Works Coalition – (Habitat Affiliate)
This ministry includes the repair and improvement of homes for the elderly, low income and working families; providing disaster relief and helping eliminate substandard housing in our community. Holiday Food

Meals on Wheels
Pick up and deliver hot and cold meals 10:30am to 1:30pm to a prepared list of shut-ins, one day per week per month. The route list is very easy to follow, even if you are not familiar with all parts of our city. Contact Person: Social Ministry Office 495-1886 ext. 14 or anderss@ascensionvb.org
Ministry to Homeless
We will be participating in Volunteers of America winter shelter during February 2008. We provide meals, laundry, fellowship, showers and a warm, safe place to sleep. Contact Persons: Ann Goodman at 202-9129 and Ed and Pat Bugeja 548-1229 bugedpat@cox.net
Ministry to the Sick
Provide visits and take Eucharist to parishioners who are hospitalized or homebound. Contact: Gary and Karen Harmeyer at 495-1258
Parish Food Pantry
Organize and maintain Ascension's Food Pantry; take weekly food cart collection to pantry. Assist with food shopping when necessary. Pack food for families needing assistance. Contact Person: Phyllis Hunt 482-4062
Soup Kitchen
Once every 2 months prepare and/or serve dinner to the homeless and pre-homeless at Judeo-Christian Outreach Shelter, Virginia Beach Blvd., near Birdneck Road. Contact Person: Marie Thompson 467-3207
Sowers of Justice
Follow your passion and join this vibrant Catholic network of volunteers to educate yourself and others on issues of Social Justice. Monthly meetings offer focus groups that encompass a wide-range of issues from death penalty to the environment and respect life. Contact Person: Social Ministry Office 495-1886 ext. 14
Disaster Response Ministry
Volunteers are needed to be on call to respond to emergency situations in our church and community. VOAD (Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster) and Ascension are committed to work with the American Red Cross to help people affected by disaster. Help would involve cleanup, preparation and delivery of meals, transportation, minor repairs and coordinating services. The only requirement is to provide TLC to those in need. World Food Day
