Responding to God's Invitation to Share Your Gifts

I love you and I am inviting you to share your gifts, love God

Scripture to ponder:

Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us exercise them. (Romans 12:6)

“In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well.  So if God has given you the ability to Prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you.  If your gift is serving others, serve them well.  If you are a teacher, teach well.  If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging.  If it is giving, give generously.  If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously.  And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.”  (Romans 12:6-8 NLT)

“When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me.’”  Erma Bombeck

“Your Talent is God’s gift to you.  What you do with it is your gift back to God.”     Leo Buscaglia

God our Father, you have created me in your image and graciously designed the unique gifts I have been given.  Lord, help me to recognize my gifts, no matter how small or how big. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide me in my
development of these gifts and show me how to use them to serve your
kingdom.  Lord, give me the strength and the willingness to share them in my everyday life, in all the ordinary ways I am called to serve you.

Heavenly Father,  as I am guided by the Holy Spirit to share the talents and gifts you have given to me, I pray that I will grow closer to you and stronger in my faith and that I can help others do the same.  Guide me in all I do.

We proclaim in this place, in this parish, Jesus is alive, welcoming the lost and leading us all to lives of merciful compassion.  We asked this through Christ our Lord, who lives, and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit as one God, Forever and ever Amen.

Questions for Reflection:

What gifts has God given me?

What gifts do other people see in me, that perhaps I did not recognize?

How do I share those gifts with others?

Do I have gifts I have not yet shared?  If so how and where can I share them?

Thoughts for Reflection:

Gift is defined as a natural ability or talent in the dictionary.  Synonyms include talent, flair, aptitude, ability, expertise, strength, capacity, capability, dexterity, skill, artistry ….

Paraphrased Reflections from Pope Francis written by Elise Harris

First received at one’s baptism, the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit are traditionally referred to as wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety and fear of the Lord.  They are brought to fruition through the Sacrament of Confirmation, during which the already baptized individual received a particular outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Among these gifts are also charisms.  “The graces which the Spirit freely bestows upon the faithful for the benefit of the whole community.”

A charism is more than a talent or personal quality; it is a grace, a gift from God through the Holy Spirit.

Other Thoughts:

"Charism" is the Greek word used in the New Testament for "favor" or "gratuitous gift." Charisms, or spiritual gifts, are special abilities given to all Christians by the Holy Spirit to give them power both to represent Christ and to be a channel of God's goodness for people. Whether extraordinary or ordinary, all charisms ought to be exercised in the service of God (CCC 799-801: Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2003).

Scriptural Lists of Gifts/Charisms from Romans 12; 1 Corinthians 12–14; and Ephesians 4 include:
